Sarabeth's

Mr. G and I went to brunch at Sarabeth’s.  There’s usually a long wait, but this time we got lucky.  The wait was pretty nonexistent which was a pleasant change.

I ordered the crisp potato waffle with chicken apple sausage and a side of apple sauce.

MEH. I’ve never really been that impressed with Sarabeth’s but most of the time I stick to eggs and potatoes.

The waffles sure were crisp.  The chicken apple sausage was flavorless but much better when dipped in the apple sauce.  I will say it was quite filling. I only ate one waffle and one sausage and was unable to eat anything else.

Oh and for the first time I noticed just how dingy the place is.  The carpet is old and gross, the pictures are dated, but at least the paint looks fresh.  Sarabeth’s is ney the best spot to get brunch in the UWS.  Some of the meals might be delicious but generally I’m just not that impressed.

Quick Breakfast

Although I mean to, I usually don't eat breakfast at home in the morning.  Most mornings I'd rather sleep for an extra 10 minutes than make something to eat.  Today, however, was a little different.  When I woke up, I realized I had already received several e-mails and conference calls overseas were being scheduled.  Yuck.

Knowing it would be that kind of day, I decided to make some breakfast so my brain would be properly charged to make it through the day.

Nothing too fancy.  Two waffles, a boiled egg and turkey sausage.  Buying prepackaged food is a good idea for those mornings when I'm in a rush.  I recommend you do the same so you can fuel your brain in the morning.  That, or wake up earlier than I do!

Hopefully I'll make it home for dinner tonight.

The Al Sharpton and President Barack Obama

Yup you guessed it.  Mr. G and I went to Amy Ruth's for breakfast.  We arrived at 11:45 so we missed the breakfast, which ends at 11:30.  While we perused the menu, the waitress brought out a basket with cornbread.

It was piping hot and melt in your mouth good.  We didn't even need to use the butter that they included in the basket.  Then it came time to order.  Mr. G went with The Al Sharpton (Chicken and Waffles).  I couldn't bring myself to order it because I felt the moment had passed for breakfast, so instead I had President Barack Obama (Fried Chicken) with collard greens and candied yams.

The food came out within 15 minutes.  Right before it arrived, the waitress asked us if we saw the sign outside that said they didn't accept credit cards because their machine was broken.  HA! that sign has been there for SEVERAL MONTHS (at least 6!).  I've decided the machine is not broken, they're just trying to avoid paying credit card fees.  Can't knock the hustle, but not loving the dishonesty.

We didn't exchange many words during the meal, because it was just that good.  The chicken was well seasoned and even though it was white meat it was very juicy.  The candied yams had a moderate sweetness which is much better than the diabetes inducing version they usually serve.  Collard greens were pretty standard.
The Al Sharpton was intact when it arrived, but Mr. G started eating before I remembered to snap a picture.  I didn't finish my meal, but they provide take out trays with separate compartments so I took the rest with me.  Guess what's for lunch!?!

Overall the meal didn't take long, we were out by 12:20, but there was a long line forming when we walked out.  Oh and before we left, Mr. G spotted a local celebrity!

Leggo my Eggo!

You can probably tell from the title what I ate for breakfast.  Easy does it today with two turkey sausage links, two scrambled eggs and two waffles, toasted.  Some people put waffles in the microwave, I just don't get it.

In the picture the eggs look brown.  That's because I cooked them in the same pan as the turkey sausage.  I find that it's easier than having to wash the pan and since it's the same meal it's okay if the flavors mix.

Okay off to work.  Lunch will likely be pescetarian delight.
