Victor's Cuban Cafe

After missing a week at work, I had to make up for the summer associate meals I didn't eat. We decided to keep it simple and head to Victor's Cafe.  I have been to Victor's several times before and really enjoy eating there.  Today, however, was not ideal. I should have noticed right when we walked in.  The restaurant was so empty they closed off the back room which has a beautiful sky light and is a wonderful place to sit on sunny days.

The waiter brought us bread which was not warm and very crusty.  I only ate the inside because the outside was too hard.

I ordered snapper ceviche and while it was very good, especially the avocado and mango, I did notice that the snapper was a little more chewy than usual. The sweet potato crisps on top were a delicious addition.

My entree was rather disappointing.  I've ordered the Camarones Enchilados many times before.  I mean how could I turn down jumbo shrimp sauteed in a zesty sauce of tomatoes, garlic, onions, peppers, thyme and white wine?  Especially when it's served on top of white sweet potato mash.  This was one time I wish I ordered something different.

The shrimp just didn't taste that fresh.  It certainly wasn't frozen, but it could have been sitting in the fridge for a day (or two).  The mashed potatoes were definitely not sweet and in fact were a little brown towards the middle.  The sauce was pretty good but wasn't enough to rescue the meal.

I couldn't be bothered with ordering dessert because they had already disappointed me.  Victor's is usually a hot bed of activity with delicious meals.  I hope today was an off day and not a sign of things to come.

Definitely not hungry.
